Description

Kashmir makes a welcome return to the tourist scene, with some of the world's finest trekking, breathtaking drives, diverse and hospitable cultures, and a healthy dose of Bollywood romance. There's something for all: adrenalin junkies and culture vultures alike. You can explore the region, including Jammu, Ladakh, Kargil and Zanskar, before commercialisation arrives, and make the most of this epic wilderness. Himalayan Kingdoms, Buddhist palaces, mountain treks and spectacular scenery entwine in newly re-accessible Jammu and Kashmir.

Sophie and Max lived in India 2006-07 and have worked in both India and Pakistan, including in Gilgit-Baltistan. Sophie is a fluent Hindi and Urdu speaker and Max's photographs of the Karakoram mountain range and Highway have been widely published. They both drove the Karakoram Highway by auto-rickshaw in 2008 and their crossing of the Kunjerab Pass broke the world altitude record for journey by tuk-tuk. They have previously authored the Bradt Guides to Tajikistan, South Sudan and Uzbekistan.
